Now that’s quite a tall order! « Making a Profit from Your Voyages. » but it is easier than you think. I’m not saying that you are going to outsell Stephen King or any other top writer, and your earnings will depend largely on who accepts the article. I thought it would be best to clear that up from the beginning as I don’t want any « newbies » shouting me out over the number of rejection slips they may recieve. That’s all part and parcel of a writers life!

Now back to what this is all about. There is absolutely no need to travel to the other ends of the earth when I am certain that, in and around the place you live there must be special places to visit, restaurants that are waiting for hungry visitors to eat local dishes, and hidden or known historical facts that can attract a wide variety of curious travellers. So instead of boarding a Jumbo and flying off to Malaysia or wherever do some research about where you live. Find out about the local history, the geography of the town or the region. Each country, including your own, has a background filled with stories, myths or legends. Bring these to the forefront, breathe some life into them and get your readers attention!

The idea is to incite them to visit, so, take your time to jot down interesting things in a notebook or on your laptop and be ready to share your findings with hundreds of readers who would never have thought of putting a foot in your region.

I suppose I’m lucky in the fact that I live in a country, and a region, that is absolutely filled with history, and in some of the world’s finest settings. Not forgetting some of the most unique sites that people from all over the world visit each year. I bet you are starting to have a guess as to where I might be situated and where I’m typing out this article? Well all I can say is that it’s a half hour flight from England, a six to nine hour flight from the USA and a fourteen hour flight from Australia. Still guessing? Good I’ve kept your attention for what follows:-

You could start your article as just above and lead your readers step by step to the destination that you are preparing to describe. It may come as a surprise but even the dullest regions have a story to tell. Forgotten iron ore mines on windswept moorlands, where only the brave would care to venture, well not quite, photographers love discovering places where no one has tread for years and years, writers bathe in the emotions that can be discovered on a barren land or a mill town that has sunk into decline, and even the everyday citizen can take pleasure in discovering or rediscovering his or her hometown in a new light. Just remember you are the one lighting the way!

Now that you’ve gathered sufficient information about the town or region you could start on your article, perhaps, if you have gathered hundreds of photographs and more than enough notes, you could skip the article and write a book?

Ah! before I forget, and just to help you out, and just in case you haven’t the following on your computer, do yourselves a favour and bookmark or download these two « freebies »
Believe you me they can really help out when you are writing an article.

http://wordreference.com an amazing translation tool and dictionary and the « Wordweb »
application for your computer or your smartphone.
As I said the Worweb application is free, but only if you don’t take too many flights in a year, but I’ll let you discover the story on the site.

Now wherewas I? Ah! yes, back to the hard part, putting all of the information into a readable product. First of all try to keep it simple and striaghtforward, plan your article around a given theme and build on it. It could be a local legend that is celebrated every year or the ruins of a haunted house, in fact anything that you like, and that you would like others to discover.
